Construction of Sukher Khamar Agro Village, billed as Bangladesh’s first community-based agro-tourism project, was formally inaugurated on 10 October in Bagil village of Kahalu upazila in Bogura.
Dr Md Abdul Majid Pramanik, acting director general of the Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogura, attended the ceremony as chief guest.
Sukher Khamar Agro Ltd Chairman Md Tasdikh Habib said agro-tourism could help farmers secure better returns by creating opportunities to earn from both agricultural produce and tourism.
He said the project aimed to promote smart agriculture and create new avenues for growth in the sector.
Managing Director Zobayer Islam said the farm was already operational, had received more than 2,000 visitors and generated economic activity worth Tk1 crore in a single village.
The project’s master plan was unveiled at the 13th Asian Tourism Fair 2026 at the International Convention City Bashundhara in Dhaka on 18 September, when more than 150 partners received their land deeds.
The planned facilities include a 100-room agro resort with a restaurant, convention hall, swimming pool and boating facilities, alongside an integrated farm, a 400-head cattle farm, fish and livestock farms, a one-megawatt solar power plant, a biogas plant, a mosque and a Hafizia orphanage madrasa.
Land filling and road construction have been completed, with full-scale construction scheduled to begin this month.
The project operates under a Shariah-compliant Musharakah partnership model. More than 1,000 people from 21 countries and 42 districts have joined as partners, with land registered in their names. The deeds were handed over at a ‘Founders’ Night’ event on 25 July.
