Magic: The Gathering: Star Trek is the card game's final frontier of 2026, and while Wizards of the Coast revealed quite a few of the cards yesterday, IGN today has seven cards we can exclusively reveal ahead of the November 13 release date.
Just like the Marvel Superheroes set that came out earlier this year, Magic: The Gathering Star Trek has cards from pretty much every era of the show's history. Even the small selection of cards we have here covers everything from the original series to Deep Space 9 and Lower Decks.
MTG Star Trek Exclusive Card Reveals
We're revealing seven exclusive Magic: The Gathering Star Trek cards:
- Mirror Universe Invasion
- Dahar master
- Pure Energy
- Tea, Earl Grey, Hot
- Unexplored Territory
- Vexing Drone
- Warp Core
The star of the show is a common artifact called 'Tea, Earl Grey, Hot.' Really, the reason why this card is noteworthy is because of the reference to Captain Picard's hot beverage of choice, but in the right deck, it could do some work. It's simply a 2 mana artifact with the 'Food' subtype, which automatically makes it useful in some decks.
But unlike the Food Tokens we've all made hundreds of, this one nets you a card when it enters. When you sacrifice it, you can either gain 3 life like any other Food Token, or you can have it deal 2 damage to an opponent. Finally, I can just throw tea in someone's face.
The more mechanically interesting card is Mirror Universe Intrusion. It's a sorcery for a colorless, a blue and a black, that lets you create a copy of a creature an opponent controls, only it has menace. That's a flavor win, but something that you can do with countless other cards.
However, if you pay the kicker of 4 colorless, a blue and a black, you instead copy all of your opponent's creatures, and give them all menace. At nine mana, it's quite an investment, but a good way to essentially steal an opponent's board.
Mirror Universe Intrusion also has a couple of 'booster fun' treatments, with a borderless version and the new showcase treatment that loos like it came right out of a Star Trek box set.
Dahar Master is a 4-mana 4/3 at common, and with its ability to sacrifice a nonland permanant to shock any target, should be useful at your prerelease. But it's kind of one of those cards that's going to end up populating a bulk box the day after you open it in a pack.
Unexplored Wilds is interesting, becuase it's an effect we've seen countless times with cards like Evolving Wilds, but worse. You can tap it for a colorless mana, unlike Evolving Wilds, but if you want to sacrifice it to tutor up a basic land, you need to spend one mana to do it, which is bad. Just like Dahar Master, this will probably be useful in draft to help you color fix, but it's going to end up in your bulk box the moment you get home.
This new Star Trek set is shaping up to at least be the most interesting Universes Beyond set of the year so far, and I am interested to see how some of the artifact strategies play out across different formats. This set is also getting previewed after Wizards of the Coast revealed Darkhold Destiny at an NYCC panel, which takes a Universes Beyond property and creates a wholly original story.
