Assam: The eviction drive resumed on Saturday in the Jamuna-Maudanga Reserved Forest in Assam’s Doboka, with the administration planning to evict 152 families and clear around 525 bighas of encroached forest land.
The operation is being carried out by the district administration and the Forest Department, with around 12 bulldozers deployed for the eviction drive. Officials had used loudspeakers on Friday to direct residents to vacate their houses ahead of the operation.
Following the announcement, some families reportedly began vacating their homes during the night.
152 Families Face Eviction After Court Relief
The latest eviction drive follows a major operation conducted in the reserved forest in January this year, when the administration evicted 1,098 families and reclaimed around 700 hectares of land.
However, 152 families approached the court following the earlier drive and received temporary relief from eviction. Their homes had remained in the forest area while the matter was under consideration.
The administration and the Forest Department have now resumed the operation to clear the remaining encroached land in the reserved forest.
The latest operation aims to remove the remaining encroachments and reclaim around 525 bighas of land in the Jamuna-Maudanga Reserved Forest. The Forest Department had issued a public announcement on Friday, asking the affected families to vacate their houses before the eviction began.
While some residents reportedly left their homes overnight, the administration proceeded with the planned operation on Saturday.
