The students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) allowed Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sheikh Shariful Alam to leave the campus this evening (13 October) after confining him for nearly 30 hours, declaring that he would not be allowed to return.
The vice-chancellor was brought out of Administrative Building-2 around 6pm and taken away in an ambulance under police escort.
As he was leaving, protesters announced over a loudspeaker that they were allowing him to leave on the condition that he would never return to the university.
Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia and Superintendent of Police Md Masud Alam were present during the proceedings.
As police escorted the vice-chancellor into the ambulance, students chanted "fake, fake" slogans against him.
It could not immediately be confirmed whether Sheikh Shariful Alam had agreed to the students' condition.
Earlier, on Monday morning (12 October), the vice-chancellor entered the campus and went to his office at Administrative Building-2, triggering tension among students demanding his resignation.
The protesters later confined him to his office and locked the building's entrance around 12:30pm, preventing him from leaving.
After nearly 30 hours, he was brought out of the building and taken outside the campus.
