A 35-year-old woman, Chintala Nagalakshmi, who was stranded in Kuwait, has been repatriated and reunited with her family in Munipalle village of Nidadavolu Mandal in East Godavari district on Tuesday to attend her husband’s last rites.
Ms. Nagalakshmi who works as a housemaid in Kuwait, through a video shared online, had appealed to the Andhra Pradesh State government for her repatriation. She had reportedly failed to convince her owner in Kuwait to let her leave for India on Monday. Her owner had reportedly demanded ₹3 lakh, citing the employment contract under which she was hired.
Ms. Nagalakshmi had sought to return to India after she received a communication about the death of her husband, Ch. Venkatesh, who had died of electrocution in Munipalle village on Monday. Meanwhile, his family members received his body after a postmortem was conducted at the Tanuku government hospital on Tuesday.
Responding to her online appeal, Minister for Tourism and Culture Kandula Durgesh alerted the concerned officials and the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society in Kuwait to facilitate her repatriation.
In an official release on Tuesday, Mr. Durgesh said; “Ms. Nagalakshmi has arrived in India and reunited with her family on Tuesday. She also attend her husband’s last rites.”
