Milwaukee Brewers veteran pitcher Brandon Woodruff has worked extremely hard to return for the World Series amid his shoulder injury. Reports surfaced over the past week that suggested Woodruff could indeed be a candidate to be included on the roster. The concern was that if Woodruff were to suffer a shoulder injury setback, he would not be able to be replaced on the World Series roster. That element of the situation presented the Brewers with a challenging decision. However, on Friday they officially announced their roster for the 2026 Fall Classic — and Woodruff is on it.
It’s a risky but understandable decision. Woodruff was limited to just nine total starts this year. In all likelihood, he will surely work out of the bullpen in the Fall Classic. The hope, of course, is that he won’t suffer any injury setbacks. If he does, the Brewers will likely be down a roster spot.
The reality of the situation is that Woodruff deserves the opportunity to pitch in the World Series. He’s the longest-tenured player on the roster and has experienced the ups and downs the team has faced for almost a decade. The 33-year-old made his big league debut back in 2017 with Milwaukee.

He’s experienced highs and lows of his own during that time. Woodruff has earned two All-Star selections over the past nine years. He’s also been limited by injuries. The veteran has not made more than 12 starts in a season since 2022.
One has to imagine that Woodruff will consider the ups and downs all worth it if he can make an impact in the World Series and help Milwaukee win its first championship.
