Sri Lanka coordinated a humanitarian operation to evacuate 40 Iranian seafarers from stranded merchant vessels approximately 24 nautical miles off the coast of Galle, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The operation was launched following distress calls concerning the medical conditions of the crew members.
The Iranian Embassy in Colombo arranged and facilitated the evacuation, enabling the seafarers to be brought ashore for medical treatment.
According to the Foreign Ministry, all 40 crew members received medical attention before departing for Iran on Saturday (October 24). (Newswire)
