A supporter of the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) tumbled from a party-branded wheelbarrow that had been hoisted on a pole during President William Ruto's public address in Konyoa West, West Pokot County, on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The young man, visibly caught up in the excitement of the presidential visit, had been perched atop the elevated wheelbarrow when he lost his balance and fell. The sudden drop sent those standing nearby scrambling to avoid being caught in the impact.
Ruto's Reaction to the Fall
Ruto, who was speaking at the time and saw the incident unfold, responded with characteristic wit rather than alarm. He paused briefly to acknowledge the fallen supporter, urging the crowd to let the matter go.
"Leave him alone. He is a good man. He is a member of the party...salaale," Ruto said, drawing laughter from those gathered at the function.
The visit forms part of a broader development tour across the North Rift region, during which Ruto has also been drumming up support for his 2027 re-election campaign. He called on residents of the North Rift to back his administration so it can complete ongoing projects in the area.

Ruto Flags Off KSh 336 Million Electricity Project
Beyond the campaign rhetoric, Ruto flagged off the KSh 336 million Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project in Konyoa West constituency, a programme designed to link 1,960 households to the national power grid. He announced that the broader investment across West Pokot County amounts to KSh 2.3 billion, targeting the connection of 10,000 homes to electricity.
The president also took aim at opposition figures, singling out Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, whom he dismissed as "empty," suggesting the senator lacked any substantive agenda for the country.
"Ethnic hatred, divisiveness and anger are no longer political currency in Kenya. Kenyans want agenda-based politics, and the Kenya Kwanza manifesto is the only agenda on the table," Ruto said.
He added that his administration was delivering on its campaign pledges, citing affordable housing, universal healthcare, and agricultural revitalisation as evidence of progress.
In a related incident, TUKO.co.ke previously reported that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula fell while moving towards a podium during a Kenya Kwanza church fundraiser in Bumula constituency, Bungoma County. Ruto's aide Farouk Kibet and others nearby helped him to his feet, and Wetang'ula quickly recovered without injury before proceeding to address the gathering.
