At 2-3 coming into Sunday, the New York Jets could be in much worse shape, especially in the wake of a 3-14 season.
However, if head coach Aaron Glenn’s situational awareness is as bad as it seemed before the second half of the game against the New England Patriots, it’s best not to get your hopes up.
The Jets went into the locker room down 17-3 after the first half. As they returned to the field against their AFC East rival, CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala interviewed Glenn about what his team needs to do in the second half to get back in the game.
Along with the usual coachspeak, the second-year head coach was heartened that his team would start the second half with the ball.
“The good thing is, we get the ball,” he said. “We get a chance to go move it and finish.”

Glenn’s strategy had only one problem: The Patriots started the second half with the ball, as the end of the interview clip shows.
Some wondered if the Jets coach was simply referring to what would happen after the ongoing New England drive. However, the interview was pre-recorded before the second half kicked off.
Even without getting the ball first, New York made a game of it in the second half, scoring 10 third-quarter points and getting within a touchdown late in the fourth quarter before the Patriots put things away for the win.
Perhaps the Jets could have won if they’d started the second half with the ball, but that scenario will have to live on in Aaron Glenn’s mind palace.
