Bayern Munich director, Max Eberl, has confirmed that head coach Vincent Kompany is in a stable condition after collapsing during a training session on Friday.
The Belgian tactician was reportedly rushed to a hospital in Munich after collapsing while working with Bayern Munich’s reserve team ahead of the club’s Bundesliga encounter with Freiburg on Sunday.
The incident raised concerns about the former Manchester City defender’s health, with the club awaiting the outcome of medical examinations to establish what happened.
Providing an update on the coach’s condition, Eberl said Kompany was stable but would remain in hospital for further assessment.
“The good news is that he is stable. Obviously, it was a difficult moment for all of us,” Eberl said, according to a report shared by Bayern Munich-focused account @iMiaSanMia.
Kompany to remain in hospital
Eberl explained that the Bayern Munich manager would remain under medical supervision for a few more days while doctors conducted the necessary examinations.
“He collapsed on the pitch yesterday and is now in hospital, where he will remain for a few more days while they establish exactly what happened, carry out all the examinations, and check everything thoroughly,” he said.
The club director’s remarks indicated that medical personnel were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No further details about the cause of the collapse were provided in the update, and the club had yet to disclose a definitive diagnosis.
Uncertainty over Freiburg fixture
Kompany’s hospitalisation comes ahead of Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash with Freiburg, leaving uncertainty over his immediate availability for the match.
The club’s medical assessments and any subsequent update on his condition are expected to provide greater clarity on his return to the touchline.
The former Manchester City captain took charge of Bayern Munich in 2024 after leaving English club Burnley, beginning a new chapter in his managerial career at one of Germany’s most successful football clubs.
For now, Eberl’s confirmation that Kompany is stable offers reassurance, although the coach is expected to remain in hospital while further tests are carried out.
