Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr wasn’t pleased with an illegal screen call late in his team’s 111-108 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Oct. 23 at Chase Center in San Francisco.
After Grizzlies rookie Cam Boozer made a shot with 19.7 seconds remaining to give Memphis a two-point lead, Golden State had a chance to tie the game. But with star guard Stephen Curry handling the ball, Draymond Green was called for an illegal screen.
Kerr said after the game that he believed Green’s screen was legal, before appearing to accuse the Grizzlies of flopping throughout the game.
“It was shocking to see that called but again, all of the flopping that was going on — every time somebody ran into a screen, they just went down and the refs bought into it,” Kerr said.
Grizzlies wing Jaylen Wells also drew an offensive foul on Green earlier in the game after Green was called for an illegal screen. Green appeared to accuse Wells of flopping while arguing with officials.
Memphis continued its strong defensive start to the season, holding Curry to 5-for-15 shooting and Golden State to 41% shooting from the field. This comes after limiting Utah jazz star Lauri Markkanen to 4-for-13 shooting in the Grizzlies' season-opening win.
Memphis will return to action on Oct. 25 against the Sacramento Kings (8 p.m. CT, DAZN-MEM).
