Two people were seriously injured when a mobile phone exploded while they were gaming in Lakshmipur's Raipur upazila on Tuesday (13 October).
One of the victims, Md Rubel Hossain, 34, sustained severe injuries to his eyes, with doctors fearing he could permanently lose his vision. The other, Shakil Ahmed, 27, also suffered serious injuries.
The victims were initially taken to Raipur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors provided first aid before referring them for advanced treatment. Rubel was sent to Dhaka, while Shakil was taken to Chandpur Sadar Hospital.
Dr Mamunur Rashid Palash, resident medical officer at Raipur Upazila Health Complex, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying Rubel's eye condition was particularly critical.
When contacted, Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nizam Uddin Bhuiya said they suspect the phone's battery overheated, causing the explosion.
However, the exact cause of the blast and the phone's brand have not been established.
