"Very devastated by the loss of life of one of my high school classmates today," Tesh wrote on Facebook. "So sad…rest in peace, Humphrey Mutua till we meet again."
To those who knew him at Igoki High School, Mutua was affectionately nicknamed "Mûthwa" — a Kikuyu word for termite — a lighthearted reference to his small frame that belied a fierce work ethic.
Another schoolmate remembered him by a different nickname, "Kichwa," but the common thread running through every tribute was the same: a young man of enormous character and quiet determination.
