The under-construction Panchabati-Muktarpur elevated road is expected to open to traffic by December, as work on the project is nearing completion, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Robiul Alam has said.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists in Munshiganj today (15 October) after inspecting the elevated road.
The minister said some work remained unfinished, but progress was satisfactory. Once opened, the road would make travel easier for people in Munshiganj and Narayanganj, he added.
He also said national, regional and district highways would gradually be brought under CCTV surveillance. The government was considering adjustments to tolls on the Muktarpur Bridge, he added.
Asked about meetings and processions on highways by the activities-banned Awami League, the minister said the banned organisation was trying to make its presence felt discreetly.
"Rejected by the people, its activities will remain banned by the state. Law enforcement agencies are there to ensure this. Such attempts cannot disrupt the elected government's efforts to ensure public welfare," he said.
Munshiganj-3 MP Kamruzzaman Ratan, Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi and other officials were present during the inspection.
