KOHIMA, OCT 12 (NPN): Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) will organise the second edition of NextStep Kohima, educational & career fair 2026, on October 15 at Kohima Village Ground, Ziekezou, to help students explore educational opportunities and make informed career choices.
Addressing a press conference at the APO building, Kohima, KVSU president Khriesaneikuo Kire said the fair would serve as a platform to provide students with information about educational institutions, career options and skill development opportunities. He invited students, career aspirants and school dropouts to participate, while encouraging parents to attend and gain insights to guide their children towards suitable career paths.
Kire said October was chosen for the event to give students sufficient time to assess options and prepare for admissions before deadlines. He noted that Kohima, being the state capital, attracts students from various districts, tribes and communities seeking higher education, vocational training and career development.
Convenor Albert Seluokuolie Rutsa informed that the fair would bring leading educational institutions, colleges, skill development centres, coaching institutes, scholarship providers and expert mentors under one roof, enabling students to interact directly with representatives.
He said participating institutions were identified through a pre event survey rather than random invitations.
Highlighting that many students from Nagaland prefer to pursue studies within the state and other parts of the Northeast, Rutsa said institutions from Nagaland and neighbouring states had been invited. He added that all schools in Kohima and neighbouring districts had been invited, with the union expecting over 50 institutions and more than 2,000 students to attend. The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Government departments and institutions including IDAN, ITIs and polytechnics will also participate. Rutsa pointed out that lack of information remains a major challenge for students in choosing educational and career paths, and said the fair would provide an opportunity to interact directly with experts and institutions. He also noted that parental influence could sometimes hinder students’ career decisions, adding that the fair would help parents better understand available opportunities and support their children in making informed choices.
