The Greens’ WA senator Jordon Steele-John has taken leave from the party room following multiple allegations he made inappropriate comments towards women.
What we know:
- Greens leader David Shoebridge has ordered an independent investigation into allegations from party members about Steele-John’s inappropriate behaviour (SMH).
- Shoebridge made the decision after he received a letter on Tuesday night where seven current Greens members wrote that they were aware of “multiple allegations” against Steele-John made between 2017 and 2025 (SMH).
- “When matters like this are raised, they require a fair and independent and timely process for them to be dealt with,” said Shoebridge. “The WA Greens are commissioning that process” (SBS).
- “I utterly reject this characterisation of me, which tries to assert I am someone I am not,” Steele-John has said in a statement. “Any allegation of this nature is extremely serious and must be treated accordingly” (SBS).
- None of those signing the letter has reportedly alleged Steele-John acted inappropriately to them personally. Several of the signatories are men (The Conversation).
