The Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has held discussions with the Commercial Director of Ceris Technologies at Tanger Med, Houmad Elouazzani, on opportunities to advance port digitalisation, strengthen cybersecurity and improve the efficiency of Ghana’s maritime infrastructure.
The engagement focused on the role of technology and strategic partnerships in modernising port operations, enhancing digital security and building resilient maritime infrastructure to support Ghana’s growing transport and trade needs.
Madam Affo-Toffey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, described the engagement as productive, highlighting the importance of exploring innovative solutions that can improve port efficiency and strengthen the security of digital systems within the maritime sector.
Port digitalisation has become increasingly important in modern maritime operations, with technology playing a critical role in streamlining processes, improving information sharing and supporting the efficient movement of goods.
Strengthening cybersecurity is equally essential as ports increasingly rely on digital platforms to manage operations and exchange sensitive information.
The discussions with Mr Elouazzani provided an opportunity to explore areas of potential collaboration, particularly in the application of technology to improve port management, safeguard digital infrastructure and enhance the resilience of Ghana’s maritime sector.
The engagement also reflects the growing importance of international cooperation in addressing emerging challenges in the maritime industry, where digital innovation and cybersecurity are becoming central to competitiveness and operational efficiency.
Affo-Toffey emphasised that strategic partnerships and technology-driven innovation remain vital to the government's transport and maritime modernisation agenda.
According to her, strengthening Ghana’s ports through modern technology and improved digital security is important to positioning the country as a competitive maritime hub in the sub-region.
Ghana’s ports play a critical role in facilitating international trade, supporting economic activity and connecting local businesses to regional and global markets.
Improving operational efficiency and strengthening the security of port systems are therefore key considerations in efforts to enhance the country's maritime competitiveness.
The meeting with Ceris Technologies forms part of broader engagement efforts aimed at exploring innovative approaches to transport and maritime development.
While the discussions identified potential areas of cooperation, further steps would be required to translate the opportunities explored into concrete initiatives.
The Jomoro MP reiterated the importance of embracing innovation and building strategic relationships that can contribute to a more efficient, secure and resilient maritime sector.
The engagement underscores the need for continued collaboration between Ghana and international technology stakeholders as the country pursues its ambition of strengthening port operations and consolidating its position as a leading maritime and trade hub in West Africa.
