Shabwa — The death toll from a Houthi attack targeting a military training center in Yemen’s southeastern province of Shabwa has risen to 63, according to local and security sources, marking one of the deadliest assaults in the country in recent months.
The attack struck a training facility where newly recruited personnel were undergoing military exercises. Medical and security officials said dozens of others were wounded in the assault, raising concerns that the number of casualties could increase further as some of the injured remain in critical condition.
Authorities stated that emergency response teams and medical personnel rushed to the scene to evacuate the wounded and transport them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Security forces subsequently tightened measures around the area and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The internationally recognized Yemeni government condemned the assault, describing it as a serious escalation that undermines efforts to restore stability and security in the country. Officials accused the Houthi group of continuing attacks against military and civilian targets despite growing international calls for de-escalation.
The attack comes amid renewed tensions and ongoing hostilities across several frontlines in Yemen, where clashes between government forces and the Iran-backed Houthi movement have intensified in recent weeks.
