Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 17 claimed that the state had secured the top position in implementing the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), citing the National Crime and Criminal Intelligence System (NCLI) dashboard of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
In an X post, he highlighted the state government's approach to policing, emphasising stricter enforcement, prompt action against crime and the safety of citizens.
“When it comes to fighting crime, Assam means business. Our policing is focused on stronger enforcement, swift action and protecting every citizen,” he said.

He further stated that Assam had ranked first in the implementation of the BNS, according to the dashboard maintained by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The chief minister's remarks underscore the state government's emphasis on strengthening law enforcement and implementing the revised criminal justice framework. However, the ranking claim was attributed to the dashboard.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita came into effect on July 1, 2024, replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as part of a major overhaul of India's criminal justice system. The legislation was introduced alongside the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which replaced the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which replaced the Indian Evidence Act.
The three laws were introduced to reform India's criminal law framework, including provisions governing offences, criminal procedures, and the admissibility of evidence.
