Samsung’s upcoming M2700 modem could help address battery drain issues in Exynos-powered Galaxy phones. The modem will reportedly accompany the Exynos 2700 chipset in some Galaxy S27 models.
According to the source, industry insiders say the M2700 delivers better power efficiency than its predecessor. One industry representative said its performance matches or exceeds competing products through voltage adjustments and other improvements.
Interestingly, the M2700 uses Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing process, the same node used for the Exynos Modem 5410 in Galaxy S26 models. Despite using the same process, the new modem is expected to consume less power. An optical die shrink has also reduced its chip area by 4%.
The M2700 brings connectivity upgrades as well. It moves from 3GPP Release 17 to Release 18 and improves Non-Terrestrial Network capabilities for satellite communications. Samsung is also reportedly shifting from the Exynos Modem branding to an M-series naming system for future modems.
Looking further ahead, Samsung plans to manufacture the M2800 modem for the Galaxy S28 series using a 2nm process. This change could improve power efficiency while freeing up 4nm manufacturing capacity for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) used in AI servers. Samsung uses its 4nm process to build the base logic die beneath the HBM memory stack.
Samsung’s System LSI division has also been improving its chip designs and encouraging Samsung DX to adopt more Exynos components in flagship Galaxy S phones. However, discussions are reportedly ongoing about whether the Exynos 2700 will power the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
