Daewoo Engineering & Construction (047040) said "Still Brilliant," the first film backed by its subsidiary Studio Prugio, opens nationwide on the 21st.
Studio Prugio was established in October last year to support the sustainable growth of the Korean content industry and to build partnerships with the arts community, the company said on the 19th. Daewoo E&C invested 450 million won in capital and holds a 100% stake.
"Still Brilliant" is directed by Song Il-gon and stars actress Kim Hye-ja.
Set in 1942 under Japanese colonial rule, the film follows Sun-ok, played by Kim, who reunites after 60 years with the closest friend who shared the most brilliant moments of her life. Tracing a friendship that stretches from a bright and innocent past to the present, the work delivers an emotional story that crosses eras and generations.
"Through the friendship of two friends, the film prompts us to look back on history we must remember," an official at Studio Prugio said. "Rather than reenacting a painful history directly, it follows one friend who is losing her memory and another who remembers everything, allowing audiences to connect with the story naturally. That approach gives the film real resonance."
An official selection at the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), "Still Brilliant" premiered at the festival on the 8th. A VIP and press screening was held on the 15th.
