A club promoter who was supposed to drive rapper Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes on the night of his assassination has taken the stand at the Durban High Court, offering a chilling firsthand account of the moments after the shooting unfolded.
Simphiwe Ngidi, who worked for Club Yugo and was assigned to chauffeur Forbes that evening in Durban, testified on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, as the murder trial of Forbes and his friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane continued.
Addressing the court with press microphones clustered at the podium before him, Ngidi described a scene of chaos and bloodshed following the February 2023 attack. He told the court that he observed Tibz wounded and attempting to drag himself through a passage, moving away from the area where the shooting had taken place.
Forbes, popularly known as AKA, was on the floor with blood visibly coming from his body. It was in that moment, Ngidi said, that the gravity of what had happened began to sink in.
"I saw that Tibz was injured and Kiernan was on the floor," Ngidi told the court. "Tibz walked inside, I think was crawling inside the passage, trying to move away from the outside area where the incident happened, and there was blood coming out of Kiernan's body, and I think that's when we, you know, kind of came to a realisation that, you know, you might have died or passed on."
