The smartphone camera has become much more than a tool for taking photos. People now use their phones to shoot videos, edit content, remove unwanted elements from images, make quick notes and move between different devices throughout the day. As expectations in the Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 segment change, the camera, AI and operating system increasingly need to work together rather than feel like separate parts of the phone.

The upcoming vivo V80 brings this approach to users who create and share content regularly. With OriginOS 7, its camera, video and AI capabilities are brought together to support different parts of the creative process, from capturing a shot and recording 4K cinematic video to refining images before they are shared. The focus on creators also reflects the V-series’ move towards a more premium imaging experience, where the smartphone is not just used to capture content but also becomes part of how it is created.
A camera built for more than photos
For the V-series, imaging has been an important part of the experience, and the V80 takes that focus further into the premium segment. Its floating camera module sits within a design available in three premium colours: Sunrise Anthem, Horizon Blue, and Stellar Black, while IP68 and IP69 ratings give the phone protection against dust and water. The result is a device designed to be carried and used across different situations, whether someone is taking photos at home, travelling or creating content outdoors.

Photography itself also gets a more flexible approach through AI Creative Camera. With more than 30 features, including support even at 3x zoom, users can make changes to lighting, atmosphere and visual style directly from the phone. For someone creating content regularly, this can reduce the need to move between the camera and multiple editing tools just to get an image closer to the intended look.
Video gets a more cinematic touch
Photos are only one part of how people use their phone cameras today. The V80 also puts more focus on video with 4K Cinematic Video, which recreates the colours and lighting of three cinematic styles. Modern Movie keeps colours natural and true to life, making it suitable for travel videos, nature, and road trips. Vibrant uses higher saturation, making it a good fit for weddings, festivals, parties and other celebrations. Pastel uses low-saturation colours with a soft, creamy grey tone, suited to café dates, brunches and lifestyle vlogs.

The phone supports 4K 60fps recording as well, allowing creators to shoot smoother footage at high resolution directly on their smartphone.
Capturing the shot is only the beginning
There are plenty of situations where a photo is almost right, but needs a little work. A travel photo can have someone walking into the frame, a portrait may need a little more space around the subject, or a shot taken for social media may not have the composition you had in mind. These are the kind of small changes that can otherwise mean spending extra time in an editing app.
AI Retouch on the V80 brings these edits directly to the phone. Users can remove distractions, expand the composition, reposition subjects or enhance the resolution depending on what the image needs. AI Creative Camera adds more options to the same process, with tools to change the lighting, atmosphere or visual style of an image. So, a photo that needs a few changes before it is shared can be edited on the phone itself, without having to move it into another app first.
The V80 also puts a focus on zoom photography with its 50MP ZEISS Night Telephoto camera, which offers 3x optical zoom, up to 100x digital zoom and 10x Zoom-In Portrait. This gives users more options when shooting subjects at a distance or framing portraits with greater flexibility. ZEISS Multifocal Portraits, covering focal lengths from 23mm to 100mm, add further choice, letting users experiment with different perspectives and compositions depending on the subject and setting.

30+ AI features add more ways to play with photos
The V80’s AI Creative Camera offers more than 30 features, giving users different ways to experiment with their photos. Options such as Stage Lighting, Sunlight and Underwater, alongside effects like Glow, Dream, Top Lighting, Back Lighting, and Dune, let users change the look and feel of their images. With styles spanning Travel, Stage, Fantasy and Landscape, users can choose effects suited to different subjects and settings.

The AI Diwali Portrait 2.0 feature takes this a step further by automatically detecting the subject and adding festive elements such as warm lighting, floral decorations, oil lamps, rangoli patterns, hanging lanterns and fireworks. It works with both indoor and outdoor portraits, giving users a way to add a festive touch to their photos without having to arrange these elements themselves.

AI meets the everyday smartphone experience
OriginOS 7 brings personalisation, productivity and connectivity into the mix. Wiggle Theme offers a more interactive way to personalise the interface, while Snap Note helps users quickly save thoughts, details or other information. Cross-device connectivity makes it easier to move between devices, and long-term updates help keep the software experience supported over time.
The next step for the V-series
With the V80, vivo is taking the V-series further into the premium imaging space. The focus is still on the camera, but the phone also gives users more to work with after they have taken a photo or recorded a video. AI tools handle some of the editing, while OriginOS 7 adds features for personalisation, productivity and connectivity, bringing the different parts of the experience together on one device.
For users looking at smartphones under the Rs 70,000 mark, this combination brings together imaging, video, AI and software in a way that supports more of what creators do on their phones. The V80 brings these elements into one device, giving everyday creators more room to capture, edit, personalise and get things done from the same phone. The vivo V80 goes on sale from 13 October, bringing its creator-focused approach to imaging, video and AI to users looking to do more with their smartphone.
