Davido’s logistics manager, Israel DMW, has paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari, crediting him with allowing the people of Edo State to choose their preferred governor during the September 2020 governorship election.
In a post shared on Instagram on Tuesday, Israel praised Buhari for what he described as a free and credible election, arguing that voters were allowed to determine the state’s political leadership despite the poll being held outside the regular election cycle.
He also criticised what he perceived as a decline in electoral conduct after Buhari left office, claiming that subsequent political developments had brought embarrassment to Edo State.

Israel wrote: “General Muhammadu Buhari. At least, you conducted a very free and credible election in Edo State, while in power. You gave we Edolites, the right to choose whoever we wanted as a governor, despite being an off-cycle election.
“What we later saw after you had left was full impunity, that has continually brought us public disgrace. Rest on, great General.”
Israel’s Tribute Comes Amid Fresh Debate Over Edo Election
Israel’s comments come amid renewed debate over the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election following remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Wike recently disclosed that he worked against the ambition of the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, because he did not want former Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki to determine his successor.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja, Wike said Ighodalo had visited him several times to seek his support but that he declined because of his disagreement with Obaseki.
The FCT minister also claimed that political alliances involving figures from the PDP and the All Progressives Congress influenced the outcome of the election.
Wike’s remarks have brought fresh attention to the political calculations surrounding the contest and the role played by influential party figures.
