The American Film Market set an inaugural New Global Screen Economy Summit on opening day that will examine a proposed federal production tax incentive, and unveiled an expanded lineup of speakers across 45+ sessions.
AFM runs Nov. 10–15 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles..
The new summit will also delve into the creator economy, new IP sources and the evolving studio system.
Panelists over the five days are from UTA, CAA, the MPA, Artists Equity, Alamo Drafthouse, Trafalgar Releasing, Ashland Hill, Cineverse, Crunchroll, Gersh, Lionsgate, Range Select, Rentrak, Spooky Pictures, Project X, Wrapbook and more. Speakers include AGC’s Stuart Ford, Evan Shapiro, Amy Baer, Wesley Wang, and Tyler Chou.
AFM’s 47th edition spans the Fairmont Century Plaza, AMC Century City 15 and The Pavilion.
“Our industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation, and while the pace of change can feel overwhelming, the opportunities are incredibly exciting,” said Jackie Brenneman, president and CEO of the Independent Film & Television Alliance, which produces AFM.
“From how stories are discovered and what gets made to how content reaches audiences and the renewed excitement around the theatrical experience, nearly every part of our business is being reimagined. We’re expanding AFM to bring new voices and perspectives into the conversation alongside the industry leaders and innovators driving this change. This complements the tremendous business and dealmaking activity at the heart of the Market while creating more opportunities to connect, exchange ideas and discover new opportunities together.”
The kickoff session Nov. 10 is called The New Federal Production Incentive: A Turning Point for U.S. Production with Steven Paul, chairman-CEO of SP Media Group, company President Scott Karol, and Josh Rogin, SVP of Federal Affairs for the MPA.
Another new addition this year is AFM House, which will feature four days of conversations, presentations and live demos of emerging technologies. Home to the expanded AFM Innovation Hub, presented in partnership with Marché du Film’s Cannes Next, AFM House will host the North American debut of the Cinemas Club, bringing together industry leaders to explore the future of theatrical exhibition and moviegoing.
