First Girls, now Glee?! In case you haven't heard, the Glee reboot Ryan Murphy has been teasing for months is officially happening. Let's just say it's been a big month for insufferable millennials like myself.
As a character from the Murphy's firefighter procedural 9-1-1 once said, “There's a pre-Glee world and a post-Glee world.” From 2009 to 2015, the musical series followed a ragtag group of misfits and jocks as they sang their way through decades of power ballads and top 40 tracks in search of community and acceptance. While demonstrably campy and comically out of pocket, Glee's cultural significance can not be overstated, from its impact on queer representation to the sheer number of careers and memes it launched since its debut.

It's been over 10 years since anyone's heard from the most famous residents of Lima, Ohio. Last we checked in, Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) was a Broadway icon carrying a baby for Kurt Hummell (Chris Colfer) and Blaine Anderson (Darren Criss). Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany S. Pierce (Heather Morris) were still together, as were Tina Cohen-Chang (Jenna Ushkowitz) and Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale). Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley) was opening for Beyoncé, while Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) was literally Vice President of the United States. And, of course, Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison) was principal of McKinley High, which became a full-fledged performing arts school.

While it's hard to imagine returning to the series without core cast members like the late Naya Rivera and Cory Monteith, here's hoping this revival will honor their legacy by introducing a new generation to wave of untapped talent. And if they could follow up with some of the characters we know and love, that would be great too.
Here's everything we know about the Glee reboot so far.
Glee is officially coming back
On October 21, Deadline reported that Glee was granted a series order by Disney+ and Hulu. This announcement comes three months after Murphy first teased the idea in July. “That show is interesting because it’s come back around. So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show,’” he said at the time.
In September, Murphy told Entertainment Tonight he wrote the script for the reboot's pilot episode with Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk and former Glee writer and producer Ian Brennan.

Is the original cast returning?
Murphy told Entertainment Tonight he'd “been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members.”
“They all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea,” he continued. “Nobody’s read it, so I don’t know, we’ll see. I vowed to myself that I wanted to write a couple of them to see what people think, particularly the cast, cause we were very close when we were making it.”

Which cast members did Ryan Murphy call?
We don't know! Harry Shum Jr.—who played Glee's resident dancer Mike Chang and is currently competing on Dancing With the Stars and starring in Grey's Anatomy—said he did not receive one of Murphy's calls, but is “excited” about the prospect of the reboot.
Meanwhile, Colfer said he has heard “absolutely nothing” about the reboot during a recent interview with Bustle. “It was a really tough show to do, and it would be really hard to do it now that Naya [Rivera] is gone, he said. "But I do know that Glee fans would probably come after me with pitchforks and jazz hands if I said no.”

Of course, Jane Lynch said she'd be in “like that” with a snap of her fingers during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, even sharing her thoughts on what Sue might be up to in 2026. “I think she would be in charge of something in big time,” she said. “Let's say she'd be the superintendent of schools or something and she would abolish the music program in all of those schools and she would put all the money into a big cheerleading squad that would have its own show on Broadway. The Sue Sylvester Follies. Someone write this down.”
Is Leah Michelle going to return to Glee?
It looks like it! In November 2025, Michelle told Glamour she would love to “say hello” to the ambitious theater zealot once again. “I think that I would always love to say hello to Rachel Berry, and I love Ryan and we’re dear friends,” she said. “He officiated my wedding. And so I’m always open to that world and seeing Rachel again.”
Variety officially confirmed her return on October 21. “She’s in,” one source told the publication, while another added, “It’s still early-ish days, but it feels good and we’re happy to get the band back together." Michele herself has not commented on the news.

Lea Michele, Back on the Board
For nearly two decades, she’s been one of entertainment’s most fascinating—and polarizing—figures. Ahead of her anticipated return to Broadway in the 1980s Cold War musical Chess, the actor opens up about recalibrating her relationship to ambition, motherhood, the rigor behind her return, and more.

What about Dianna Agron?
Agron exuded star power as the pregnant head cheerleader in season one of Glee, with performances like "I Say a Little Prayer" and "Papa Don't Preach" forever etched into the cultural zeitgeist. I mean, it's probably fair to say “I Say a Little Prayer” was a TikTok dance before the app even existed.

She went from series regular to guest star in season four and did not appear in season five's tribute episode for Monteith, who died of an overdose in 2013, sparking rumors of a rift between her and the Glee family. Agron denied those rumors at the time, with other sources claiming her absence was due to scheduling conflicts.
Agron only appeared in a handful more episodes after that, including the series finale in 2015, but has spoken positively about the series on multiple occasions. “This was my dream job,” she told Glamour in 2022. “I grew up on musicals like Funny Face and Singing in the Rain, and American in Paris, so the fact that I found it and found such wonderful experiences in that space, just feels as absolutely what I was meant to do first and what was meant to guide me and teach me. I feel very lucky to have had that. I really, actually can’t believe it, looking back."

Meanwhile, other members of the cast have been open about negative experiences and complicated feelings towards the show.
Who else will star in Glee?
Who knows, but I'm personally hoping Murphy will bring back The Glee Project to cast the next generation of Gleeks. That's how we were introduced to Alex Newell and Ali Stroker, after all.
When is Glee returning?
No word yet on a premiere date.
This article will be updated.
