Screenshots allegedly showing private DMs sent by gospel star Dumi Mkokstad have been making the rounds on X and TikTok, sending social media into a frenzy. Rather than the content of the messages itself grabbing the most attention, it's the growing chorus of fans calling out the screenshots as AI-generated that has dominated the conversation.
The images were reshared by the verified Instagram page @entertainmentsa on 15 October 2026 under the caption "Dumi Mkokstad Has Some Explaining To Do." The post quickly attracted reactions, with many followers expressing serious doubt about whether the screenshots were real at all.
The profile picture that raised red flags
One of the first details fans zeroed in on was the profile picture attached to the account in the DMs, which featured what appeared to be one of Mkokstad's older album covers rather than a current photo. That discrepancy alone was enough to make many question the timeline of the messages and whether the account even belonged to the gospel star.
Some commenters also pointed out that portions of the messages were censored, making it impossible to draw any solid conclusions from what was shown.

@elihlilanga_1 commented:
"But thats not Dumi's profile."

@vincee_n raised a separate concern:
"Why are some texts censored? Now people are making conclusions on incomplete messages. Am I off?"
@ttdaar kept it short:
"This is AI 😂"
Dumi Mkokstad, one of South Africa's most celebrated gospel musicians, has not publicly addressed the screenshots.
