PETALING JAYA: Bersatu has taken a swipe at PAS following Perikatan Nasional's deregistration, describing the development as a reminder for coalition heads to lead fairly.
In a statement, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said as PN's co-founder, he was saddened by the coalition's deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
"Nonetheless, this decision is a reminder to all parties that lead coalitions to act fairly towards component parties and always comply with their constitution and the Societies Act 1996.
"Don't abuse your power or position in the coalition simply for the interests of your own party or certain groups, causing the coalition to stray from its original purpose and goals," he said.
The former PN chairman added that he would discuss the matter with the Bersatu leadership at a special political bureau meeting tonight.
The RoS announced PN's deregistration this morning after finding that the coalition's response to a show-cause notice failed to justify retaining its registration.
The notice was issued last month after Bersatu lodged a complaint with the RoS, claiming it was excluded from a key PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, which raised questions about its membership in the coalition.
Ties between PAS and Bersatu deteriorated after the Islamic party ended its cooperation with Bersatu in June.
The two parties established the coalition in 2020, with Muhyiddin as chairman. He stepped down from the post in January and PAS vice-president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar took over.
