The Caretaker Chief Administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, Joseph Boyoi Ngare, has announced plans to construct a temporary terminal at Pibor airstrip to improve safety and manage overcrowding.
Ngare made the announcement during an inspection visit to the facility on Tuesday.
The visit followed concerns over overcrowding and inadequate safety measures that pose risks to flights, passengers and goods.
The chief administrator said the temporary terminal would be constructed in the short term as plans for a permanent facility are developed.
He also raised concerns over the smuggling of illegal substances and prohibited items through the airstrip without proper inspection.
Ngare directed security personnel at the facility to carry out their duties diligently, stressing that public safety and the protection of entry points must be a priority.
The visit was attended by security officials and the Mayor of Pibor Town Council.
