By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 37-year-old fisherman accused of shooting and injuring a police corporal before allegedly opening fire on other officers during a pursuit has been indicted on five counts of attempted murder in the High Court.
Stanley Moris Flowers, of Sandhill, appeared before Justice Nigel Pilgrim on Tuesday, October 20, where he pleaded not guilty to all five counts involving Corporal Manuel Chub and Police Constables Sebastian Sho, Valentine Young, Joel Chi and Alfredo Serria.
The charges stem from a March 31, 2025 incident near Fire Nightclub on the Philip Goldson Highway, where police reportedly approached Flowers after receiving information about an armed man.
According to earlier police reports, Flowers allegedly pulled out a firearm and opened fire, injuring Corporal Chub. He then reportedly fled on a motorcycle toward the Burrell Boom junction, where responding officers came under gunfire during a pursuit.
The incident also resulted in damage estimated at $24,436.91 to two police vehicles.
Flowers was initially charged with several offences, including attempted murder, dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm, aggravated assault with a firearm and firearm-related offences.
After spending nearly a year on remand, Flowers was granted bail of $15,000 by Justice Antoinette Moore in March 2026, following delays in completing his preliminary inquiry.
Flowers, who remains out on bail, is represented by attorney Leeroy Banner.
Justice Pilgrim has scheduled a case management conference for November 30, 2026, followed by a further court appearance on December 4, when a trial date is expected to be considered.
The matter will be heard by a judge without a jury.
