Champions League betting tips

Our betting experts have picked out their favourite Champions League bets for the upcoming round of matches, with a focus on the Premier League competitors.

Liverpool vs Villarreal betting tips

(19.45 pm, TNT Sports 2)

Liverpool suffered their first loss under Andoni Iraola against Manchester City in the Premier League last week but have bounced back nicely with a 6-3 away victory against LASK Linz in the UEFA Champions League, and a 2-1 away win at the GTech Stadium against Keith Andrews’ Brentford side.

Alexander Isak returned to action against the Bees and was once again the match winner. That is five league goals now for the Swede and many people expect him to find the net once again versus the Spanish side.

Best bet: Alexander Isak anytime scorer vs Villarreal 10/11 (Bet365)

Manchester City vs AEK Athens betting tips

(7pm, TNT Sports, HBO Max)

Manchester City are on a seven-game winning streak in the Premier League. They are awaiting their fate in terms of the sanctions that may be imposed on Maresca’s men, but they continue to dominate in the Premier League. However, it is one win and one defeat in the UEFA Champions League so far for City after being turned over by PSG on matchday two.

A home game against Greek outfit AEK Athens should see Erling Haaland add to his eight Premier League goals in seven matches. He is as short as 1/3 to do so tonight.

Best bet: Erling Haaland to score anytime - 1/3 (Bet365)

Champions League final betting markets

There’s a huge selection of markets for Champions League matches, many of which are free bet eligible. Here’s a selection of the more common Champions League betting markets:

• Match result (1X2): Bettors are picking which side will win, or if there will be a draw. For finals, odds are typically tighter than regular knockout rounds given the neutral venue and high stakes, as well as the fact a game may go to extra time. Match bets only cover the outcome after 90 minutes and don’t apply to the final result after extra time and penalties.
• Over/under: Bettors can wager on whether they think there will be more or less of an event in the Champions League, such as corners, bookings or shots. The most common event to bet on is goals, with the over/under 2.5 goals market very popular. Remember, finals tend to be cautious affairs, which makes this market worth understanding before placing.
• Both teams to score (BTTS): A yes/no wager on whether both sides will find the back of the net or not. Historically, Champions League finals produce fewer goals than regular fixtures, which will be reflected in how this market trades.
• First goalscorer: One of the most popular markets for major finals as bettors wager on who will open the scoring. Odds vary significantly by player role, recent form and set-piece involvement.
• Correct score: Bets on the final score of the Champions League. This market usually applies to the result after 90 minutes. Historically, 1-0 and 2-1 are among the most common final scorelines in the Champions League era.

Of course, bettors can combine all of the above in a bet builder, increasing the odds by creating a single bet featuring several legs. All the Champions League betting sites on our list have a bet builder tool.

If a punter didn’t get a bet on before kick-off, there’s a massive selection of in-play markets, with odds frequently updated as the game progresses.
