For the second time in 10 days, a national broadcast was unable to properly identify who Bay Area rap legend E-40 is.
The mistakes have come in both directions, first happening on Oct. 9 during the game that clinched the Valkyries a spot in the WNBA Finals. During the broadcast, an announcer identified the legendary Bay Area rapper as Too Short, a legendary local rapper in his own right but not the man sitting "at the end of the Valkyries bench," as the Peacock announcers suggested.
Then there was what happened on Monday for Game 2 of the WNBA Finals. This time, Too Short was, in fact, in attendance and also properly identified by the USA Sports broadcast booth.
E-40 even got a proper shout-out in the nameplate graphic underneath two Bay Area legends who were sitting right next to Valkyries owner Joe Lacob. The problem, however, was that the rapper identified as E-40 was actually Mistah F.A.B. Once again, the only connection was that this man is also a legendary local artist.
😂😂😂 Now @WNBA , y'all know good and well THAT AIN'T @E40 !!! 🤣🤣🤣 Y'all just putting names on anybody at this point! 💀😭 Somebody in that production truck needs their glasses AND a new job! 😂😂 #WNBAFinals #NotE40 #WrongRapper #SomebodyGettingFired #ImHollering https://t.co/LUh89EzlzO

What made this mistake worse was that E-40 wasn't even in the building on Monday night. He was down in Santa Clara taking in the San Francisco 49ers' win against the Washington Commanders to improve to 6-0.

To the credit of those on the USA broadcast, including Cal alum Kate Scott, they didn't compound the visual mistake by adding an audio gaffe. Scott simply said, "Too Short, banging the drum, catching up with Elle and Renee before the game tonight. Joe Lacob sitting beside him."
The good news for these productions teams is that with Monday's 79-65 loss to Atlanta, the best-of-seven series is guaranteed to return to Golden State for one more game, giving these broadcasters at least one more opportunity to get their Bay Area rappers straight.
