Cachar Police have seized 2.3 lakh Yaba tablets valued at approximately Rs 57.5 crore from a truck in Assam on Thursday, October 15, in what the district’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) described as the biggest such seizure in recent times.
Two men from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have been arrested in connection with the seizure. The consignment was recovered from a concealed chamber inside the truck during the operation.
The recovery of 2.3 lakh tablets, with an estimated value of Rs 57.5 crore, marks a significant seizure in the district. The concealed compartment inside the truck had been used to hide the consignment, according to the information shared by the authorities.
Yaba is a synthetic drug that typically contains methamphetamine and caffeine. Its trafficking and possession are illegal in India.
The arrests and seizure are part of ongoing efforts by Assam Police to curb the movement of narcotic substances through the state. Investigators are now expected to trace the source of the consignment and establish its intended destination, along with any possible links to a wider trafficking network.
Further details about the operation and the investigation are awaited.
