SolarWinds launched Avior on October 14, a standalone agentic AI system for mission-critical IT environments. That makes it the fifth IT monitoring or operations vendor to ship a governed agent product in roughly 48 hours, after LogicMonitor, Druid AI, NeuBird ARC, and SolarWinds’ own announcement. But what sets this one apart is the installed base: SolarWinds serves more than 300,000 enterprise customers. When a vendor that large ships an agent, the question is not whether the technology is interesting. It is what changes for the people running those environments.
The core idea behind Avior is what SolarWinds calls deterministic execution. CTO Krishna Sai described the design as grounding probabilistic models in deterministic execution — the AI models figure out what needs doing, while a fixed framework of predefined goals and approval controls governs how it gets done. Every workflow is auditable.
That is a deliberate counter to the way many AI tools work today, where a language model reasons its way through a problem and the operator hopes the path was sensible. SolarWinds is drawing a line: the models can propose, but the framework decides.
What Avior Actually Ships
Avior is not an in-product assistant bolted onto one monitoring tool. It is a standalone, cross-portfolio agentic system that can act across the entire digital estate within customer-defined controls. The architecture runs on the SolarWinds Platform and follows an “AI by Design” responsible-AI framework built on three pillars:
Goal-Oriented: operates within a control loop pursuing measurable objectives, not free-form reasoning.
Transparent: shows its reasoning in detailed, auditable language so operators can inspect what the agent decided and why.
Controlled: fine-grained autonomy at every level, with three operational modes — assistive (recommends actions), human-in-the-loop (requires explicit approval), and fully autonomous (within customer-defined guardrails).
At launch, Avior handles specific, high-friction operational tasks: merging related alerts into single incidents, detecting unauthorized or out-of-band configuration changes, restoring last-known-good configurations on critical devices, cleaning up stale inventory, and running a network engineering agent for alert management, configuration automation, compliance checks, and incident remediation. The system also supports the Model Context Protocol for connecting to external and third-party systems. A database administration agent is planned for later in Q4 2026, with IT administration, SRE, and security analyst agents following in late Q4 and early 2027.
Safety features include risk-based guardrails, audit trails, automated rollback, data masking, and least-privilege access. Customer data is not used to train the underlying models. Potentially dangerous actions always require explicit human approval.
The Installed-Base Question
Interim CEO and Chief Product Officer Cullen Childress framed the product as a response to operational overload: “IT operations have long been measured by how quickly teams can respond. But as environments become more complex, distributed, and noisy, reaction time alone is no longer enough. Organizations need to move proactively, reduce operational risk, and build resilience into the way IT work gets done.”
The framing is familiar — every vendor in this week’s cluster has pitched proactive operations over reactive firefighting. What is different is who is saying it. SolarWinds’ monitoring tools are embedded in the daily workflows of hundreds of thousands of enterprise teams. For those teams, Avior is not a greenfield adoption decision. It is an extension of tools they already rely on, which lowers the friction of getting started but also raises the stakes if the agents misfire.
Zero Outcome Data, Same Pattern
SolarWinds launches Avior with no published outcome data — no adoption metrics, no resolution-time improvements, no customer case studies with measurable results. That puts it squarely in the same pattern as Kyndryl, HCLTech, and Workday, all of which shipped governed agents without outcome numbers. DXC remains the only vendor in this week’s cluster to publish scoped outcome data: a 95 percent reduction in resolution time across 500 use cases.
The measurement gap is not a technicality. It is the central question for enterprise teams evaluating these tools. SolarWinds has built a credible governance framework — deterministic execution, audit trails, risk-tiered autonomy — but the framework alone does not tell an operations leader whether the agents will actually reduce incident volume, cut resolution time, or lower the cost of running production environments.
Avior is available from October 14 through a guided onboarding program for both SaaS and self-hosted SolarWinds environments. For the 300,000-plus teams already running SolarWinds monitoring tools, the agents are as close as a configuration toggle. The question is whether that convenience will be matched by evidence that the agents earn their keep.
