With Doctor Who now being fought over by various production companies after being put out to tender, the search for the next Doctor will soon be on.
Former showrunner Russell T Davies has predicted that the next Doctor will be announced next summer, but it's by no means an easy job to step into.
Helpfully, Fourth Doctor actor Tom Baker has provided them with some sound advice after his historic run as the time traveller, which ran from 1974 to 1981.
Speaking exclusively to Radio Times, Baker said: "Well, I’m not going to tell them how to do it. That would give the game away, wouldn’t it? Ha ha! Just be yourself. Be yourself and then some. You’re the Doctor.
"And there’s nothing more magical than playing someone not human, who is from Gallifrey, in the constellation of Kasterborous, with two hearts, a sonic screwdriver, and relying on their own wits. The character of the Doctor is the best of Humanity, wrapped into one being, commenting on Humanity, all whilst eating jelly babies!"
Tell 'em, Tom!
While he's of course best known for his role as the Fourth Doctor, Baker has also played Sherlock Holmes multiple times in his career and is officially reprising the role for AUK's Sir Sherlock audio series alongside his Doctor Who co-star, John Leeson, who voices John Watson. Very aptly, the next story is titled The Doctor's Son.
Speaking about returning to the role, Baker said: "The sheer pleasure of waking up and knowing you’re going to be engaged in something exciting, like being an actor.
"Holmes was a frustrated actor. All those disguises and voices he used over the stories. Yes, he was an old ham. But that quality Holmes has of never apologising, he needs to get things right.

He added: "So, really, I can be a bit like Holmes as an actor and as a person, I suppose. I bring myself to the role more than the other times I’ve played him, I guess.
"I like people to like what I do and, if I’ve got the power, being allowed to do it my way. If I haven’t got the power, I just have to go along with it."
Sir Sherlock: The Doctor’s Son is the fourth adventure in the Sir Sherlock series from AUK Studios. The three previous adventures are: The Red Letter Day, The Sickle and the Sea and The Parting Shot.
