Conference titles, playoff positioning up for grabs in Week 10
12:45 p.m.: The 2026 regular season will come to a close tonight. Several area teams are battling for conference crowns and playoff berths, while more than half of the teams in Ohio — 372 to be exact — will walk off the field one last time before the postseason begins. We’ve got a great slate of games in the Miami Valley to end the regular season. Here are a few of the games we’ll have coverage from this evening:
*
Butler (6-3, 5-3) at Fairborn (6-3, 5-2): The playoffs start a week early in Fairborn. The Skyhawks host the Aviators in a winner-take-all Week 10 matchup. The victor will clinch a playoff berth in Division II, Region 8, while the loser is likely left out of the playoffs, according to Fantastic50.net. The stakes don’t get much higher than this one.
*
London (7-2, 4-0) at Kenton Ridge (8-1, 4-0): The Cougars are seeking their first CBC Kenton Trail Division championship since 2014. They’ll have their hands full against a Red Raiders squad that has won five straight division titles, 22 straight divisional games and seven straight games against the Cougars.
*
Middletown (5-4, 5-3) at Hamilton (1-8, 1-7): Last year’s game is proof you have to throw out the records when it comes to the Butler Bowl. The Big Blue beat the Middies 14-10 after entering the game as 23-point underdogs. Hamilton will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2018, so they’ll have plenty to play for tonight against a Middletown team who are fighting for playoff positioning in D-I, Region 4.
*
McNicholas (7-2, 4-0) at Badin (7-2, 3-1): The Rams need a win to claim a share of their ninth straight GCL Co-ed championship dating back to 2018. The Rockets’ last title came in 2017 in the GCL Central; they’ve never won the title since it became a six-team division in 2019.
*
Ross (3-6, 1-2) at Bellbrook (10-0, 3-0): The Division III top-ranked Golden Eagles can clinch the outright Southwestern Buckeye League championship with a win over the Rams. Bellbrook is assured of a first-round bye after clinching the No. 1 seed in Division III, Region 12.
Playoff picture
Playoff pairings will be announced Sunday by the OHSAA. The top 12 teams in each region qualify for the playoffs, with the top four seeds earning first-round byes.
In the first round, seeds No. 5 through No. 8 host playoff games. Those winners advance to the second round to face the top four seeds, which will also host.
Beginning with the regional semifinals, all playoff games will be played at neutral sites. The state championship games are scheduled for Dec. 3-5 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
Dunbar brings home two trophies
Week 10 got off to a great start last night as Dunbar beat Meadowdale 27-0 to claim the Dayton City League title for the first time since 2023. Check out our highlights from last night’s game from staff writer Steven Wright.
Check back here later tonight for score updates and highlights from across the Miami Valley.
