KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia has launched a new platform to facilitate the issuance, depository and safekeeping of tokenised bonds and sukuk.
Known as Ssds+, the platform is designed to streamline transactions, provide greater flexibility in structuring financial instruments and expand access to investment opportunities.
Bank Negara said the platform was developed in-house using cloud and distributed ledger technologies.
It builds on the existing scripless securities depository system, which serves as the central securities depository for the wholesale financial market.
Beyond wholesale issuances, Ssds+ is also equipped to support tokenised government and retail bonds, with its integration with Rentas+ enabling secure payment and settlement services around the clock.
The platform manages the transfer of tokenised securities and maintains ownership records, while Rentas+ facilitates the corresponding payments for bond purchases in central bank money.
Bank Negara governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said the launch marks a major milestone in modernising Malaysia's financial market infrastructure.
He said Ssds+ and Rentas+ will provide a secure, faster, more flexible and digitally enabled foundation for new applications in securities and payments.
"These platforms will support innovation and contribute to more efficient and responsive financial markets," he said in a statement today.
