The Philadelphia Eagles ruled out Jalen Hurts for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after doctors found multiple blood clots in his lungs.
The issue began when medical personnel discovered a superficial blood clot on Hurts' calf before the Eagles' Week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. The quarterback was ultimately cleared to play in that contest, but later testing recognized "movement" in the clot.
This scary health situation has drawn reactions from around the NFL world, including a statement from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“It’s extremely scary. For someone like that, that doesn’t miss football games, doesn’t get injured to have something where a blood clot that gets into the lungs that can be life threatening, it puts it into perspective," Mahomes said, via SleeperChiefs. "At the end of the day we’re human beings and we have families that we want to be there for, for a long time.”
The Eagles now move forward through their 2026 campaign with Tanner McKee as their starting quarterback. In Week 7, they'll face off against the division-rival Dallas Cowboys in a primetime "Monday Night Football" clash.
