The Bangladesh Coast Guard provided emergency medical assistance to a seriously ill passenger aboard a passenger launch after receiving a call on its emergency service number 16111.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan disclosed the information on Monday evening (October 19).
He said a passenger aboard the Dhaka-bound MV Karnaphuli-13 suddenly fell ill at around 11:30pm on October 18 when the launch reached the Anandabazar area of Chandpur.
The passenger’s brother, who was travelling with him, called the Coast Guard’s emergency hotline 16111 seeking assistance.
Following the call, a medical team from Coast Guard Station Chandpur promptly reached the launch and provided the necessary medical assistance to the sick passenger.
The passenger was subsequently transported by a Coast Guard boat to Sadarghat Launch Terminal in Dhaka for advanced treatment. Under Coast Guard supervision, he was then taken by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan said the Coast Guard remained committed to serving the public and would continue its efforts to provide assistance to people in emergencies.
