Expo Amazónica 2026 aims to serve as a platform to boost exports from the Peruvian Amazon and create new business opportunities. The goal for this year’s edition is to exceed 100 million soles (approximately US$ 30 million) in commercial transactions, stated Manuel Gambini, the regional governor of Ucayali.
Speaking to the Andina news agency in Pucallpa, the governor of Ucayali highlighted the participation of international buyers and producers from various Amazonian regions, all of whom are looking to establish commercial ties to position their products in foreign markets.
“What matters most to us are the commercial agreements,” Gambini affirmed, noting that the impact of the fair should be measured not only by sales finalized during the event but also by the opportunities generated for the future.
In this regard, he expects to see agreements or future sales contracts reached with a value between US$ 40 million and US$ 50 million.
He explained that these agreements will help stimulate economic activity, create jobs, and improve the living conditions of the Amazonian population, particularly among indigenous peoples.
Amazonian Cacao Seeks to Conquer International Markets
Gambini emphasized that the Peruvian Amazon offers products with the potential to compete in international markets—including chocolates made from fine-aroma cacao, coffee, and other innovative offerings developed by local entrepreneurs.
He cited examples such as bucao cacao from Ucayali, chuncho cacao from Cusco and Amazonas, and fine-aroma cacao from San Martín—products whose derivatives are increasingly gaining recognition in specialized competitions and events, including the Salon du Chocolat in Paris.
The governor highlighted the presence of international buyers—brought in with the support of Promperú—who are holding meetings with Amazonian producers to explore business opportunities and finalize commercial agreements.
Furthermore, he noted that markets such as the United States, China, and the European Union offer opportunities to expand exports of Amazonian products. He specifically pointed to China’s commercial interest and the importance of continued efforts to meet the international demand for high-quality cacao.
Product processing will create more jobs
The governor maintained that one of the primary challenges for the Amazon region is to move beyond the sale of unprocessed raw materials and shift toward product transformation, thereby adding value.
“We have an abundance of raw materials, yet we have traditionally sold them only in their raw state. The transformation process will add value, create numerous job opportunities, and foster well-being for entrepreneurs,” he stated.
In this context, he highlighted the participation of young entrepreneurs and students of Economics and International Trade in the fair’s activities, noting that such forums help connect them with opportunities in foreign trade.
Gambini also underscored the growth of ExpoAmazónica—which brings together entrepreneurs from indigenous peoples and *mestizo* communities—and announced that the next edition will be hosted by the Loreto region.
Finally, the regional official invited the residents of Pucallpa and visitors alike to take part in ExpoAmazónica 2026, an event that showcases products from various regions of the Peruvian Amazon and aims to strengthen opportunities for commercialization, innovation, and business development.
