Bishop Kenny head baseball coach Tommy Edwards will retire from coaching after the 2027 spring season, the athletic department announced Oct. 21, which will end one of Jacksonville's most successful and consistent active coaching tenures on the diamond.
The school has designated former Bishop Kenny player and current assistant coach KK Daniel as his successor.
Edwards has spent 33 years with Bishop Kenny as a player, assistant coach or head coach. He will be entering his 22nd season at the helm this spring, having taken over from longtime Crusaders coach Bob West after the 2005 high school season.
During his time at Bishop Kenny, Edwards has led the team to 16 Florida High School Athletic Association district championships, three final-four appearances and the state championship in 2008. Times-Union records show a career mark of 387-191 in Edwards' Crusaders career.
Daniel, the Crusaders' coach in waiting, has served on Bishop Kenny's staff for the past six years. He played baseball at the school from 2010 to 2013 and competed in college at Florida Gulf Coast, Cowley County Community College and Drury University.
Bishop Kenny is scheduled to compete in FHSAA District 4-4A in 2027 alongside Englewood, Fleming Island, Menendez, Parker, St. Augustine and Westside.
