For most concerts, the music starts when the house lights start to dim. But at Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds‘ annual Riviera Maya getaway, which is gearing up to celebrate its 10th anniversary, it starts long before the sun goes down — while you’re floating in a pool, wandering toward the beach, or deciding whether you have enough time for another round of guacamole (and/or shots) before the night’s main event.
That distinction has helped turn Dave & Tim Riviera Maya into a tradition of its own. From January 20th through 23rd, 2027, Matthews and Reynolds will return to Moon Palace Cancún for the 10th installment of their destination concert vacation, bringing along Goose, Sierra Ferrell, and Stephen Wilson Jr. for four nights of music along Mexico’s Caribbean coast. As is tradition, Matthews and Reynolds will headline three of those nights with beachfront performances, while Goose — lovers of the Mexican Sun themselves — will kick off the festivities with two sets on Wednesday.

Ten years is plenty of time for an event to figure out what it wants to be, and Riviera Maya has settled into something that lounges comfortably between a festival weekend, a resort vacation, and a gathering of people who feel those things shouldn’t be kept separate. At night, there’s music under the Caribbean sky. During the day, there are poolside performances, food and drinks, ocean waves, beach games, excursions, and enough options to make doing absolutely nothing feel like everything anyone could ever need. Here’s what awaits on the beach in 2027.

The entire weekend is built around a musical relationship that has now lasted more than three decades.
When Matthews and Reynolds strip things down to two guitars, familiar songs tend to loosen up with them. The pair’s shows can move between Dave Matthews Band staples, deep cuts, rarities, and covers, leaving plenty of room for Reynolds to stretch out and Matthews to follow wherever the evening happens to lead. In Riviera Maya, they’ll get three nights to do exactly that.
The setting only adds to the perfect informality. The event’s oceanfront venue allows fans to push toward the stage or hang farther back on the sand, where a lounge chair is a perfectly acceptable place to watch the show. Food and drinks are available within the concert area, turning each night’s performance into less of a traditional get-in/get-out concert and more of the endpoint to an entire day spent together at the resort.
After 10 years in Mexico, that rhythm has become as much a part of Dave & Tim Riviera Maya as the performances themselves. And those performances have a habit of expanding beyond just Dave and Tim; Over the years, the pair have welcomed guests including Trey Anastasio, Jason Isbell, Mavis Staples, Molly Tuttle, Béla Fleck, and plenty more to join them on the beach. Last year alone, Trampled by Turtles helped them pay tribute to Bob Weir with “Friend of the Devil” and “Casey Jones,” while Joy Oladokun joined them for “The Maker.”
