The Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants (PIPFA) held its 17th Graduation Ceremony at the IBA Auditorium, Saddar Campus, Karachi. About 100 graduates and position holders received their qualifications and awards. The ceremony was attended by graduates, their families, faculty members, members of the Board of Governors, senior members of the accountancy profession and public sector officials.
Addressing the ceremony as Chief Guest, Mr. Miandad Rahoojo congratulated the graduates and position holders. He also paid tribute to their parents and families for the sacrifices and support behind their success. He said that PIPFA was established in 1993 by ICAP, ICMA Pakistan and the Department of the Auditor General of Pakistan. He noted that it is a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the only professional accountancy body in Pakistan that specialises in public finance. He added that the graduates were joining a community of more than 9,300 members and almost 39,000 students.
Mr. Rahoojo said that every budget line has a human purpose behind it, whether a school, a hospital or a public servant’s salary. When public money is managed honestly, he said, it is transformed into roads, classrooms, clean water and dignity for citizens. He urged the graduates to see their work as a national service that protects the citizen’s rupee.
Stressing PIPFA’s core values, he described integrity as the real qualification of a professional. “Your signature is your reputation, and your reputation is the only asset that cannot be rebuilt once it is lost,” he said. He reminded the young professionals that public money is the greatest amanat of all, because it belongs to every citizen.
Speaking about the changing nature of the profession, Mr. Rahoojo pointed to integrated financial management systems, e-procurement, data analytics, artificial intelligence and international standards such as IPSAS and IFRS. He encouraged the graduates to keep learning and to build sound professional judgement. He said that better budgeting, stronger internal controls, timely audits and transparent procurement are key to meeting Pakistan’s fiscal challenges. He also stressed that Karachi and Sindh need committed professionals in both the public and private sectors.
He advised the graduates to be punctual and reliable, to study the financial and procurement rules themselves, to keep complete documentation, to mentor their juniors and to stay humble. He commended PIPFA’s leadership, faculty and staff for their dedication to building a profession based on integrity.
The ceremony was also addressed by Mr. Usman Ahsan, President of PIPFA. Mr. Imdad Ali Shaikh, Executive Director of PIPFA, also attended. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of souvenirs, a group photograph and a vote of thanks.
