A man has died after his car smashed into a well-known Bondi gelato shop in the middle of the afternoon.
The 63-year-old man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition after the vehicle crashed through the front of Luca and Luca Gelato at the corner of Campbell Pde and Beach Rd about 1.40pm on Tuesday.
The driver is believed to have suffered a medical episode shortly before the crash. No other injuries were reported.
Photos of the crash show major damage to both the white SUV and the front of the popular ice cream shop.
NSW Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon the man had died in hospital.
“A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner,” police said in a statement.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and motorists have been urged to steer clear of the area while emergency crews respond.
