At the invitation of President Tetsuya Watanabe of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, will undertake a working visit to Tokyo, Japan, on 21-23 October 2026, where he will deliver a Special Lecture at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS). Under the ASEAN-Japan Dialogue on Regional Cooperation, the lecture will provide an opportunity to reflect on ASEAN’s experience in regional diplomacy and collaboration, and to highlight how ASEAN and Japan can translate their longstanding partnership into practical cooperation amid growing geopolitical and geoeconomic uncertainty. During the visit, Dr. Kao will be taking the opportunity to also meet with Japanese government ministers and senior officials, business representatives, academic institutions, as well as with the ASEAN Committee in Tokyo. These engagements will seek to strengthen the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, advance shared priorities, and explore opportunities for closer cooperation in support of regional peace, prosperity and resilience.
