Narayangarh (Chitwan), October 25
The number of road accidents and the number of people killed or injured in them declined significantly in Chitwan during this year’s Dashain festival.
According to the District Traffic Police Office, road accidents fell by around 73 per cent compared with Dashain last year.
Office data show that 33 road accidents occurred in the district during the Dashain period of the fiscal year 2025/26, killing four people and injuring 58. During Dashain in the current fiscal year 2026/27, nine road accidents were recorded, resulting in one death and 29 injuries.
Compared with last year, the number of accidents fell by 24. Similarly, fatalities declined by 75 per cent and injuries by 50 per cent.
Anil Thapa, chief of the District Traffic Police Office, said the use of technology, strict vehicle inspections, effective security arrangements and traffic awareness campaigns had helped reduce accidents and casualties.
According to Thapa, surveillance through CCTV cameras installed at key locations across the district, the use of body-worn cameras by traffic police and strict vehicle checks along major highways had contributed to reducing accidents.
He added that strengthened security arrangements during the festival and continued efforts to raise traffic awareness had also helped reduce road accidents and the resulting loss of life and injuries.
