After back-to-back wins against Frankfurt (6-0) and PSV (1-0), RB Leipzig face another big test on Saturday at 18:30 CEST, when they travel to face FC Bayern.
The Red Bulls will be looking to pick up their first points on the road this season in what will be the third of seven matches in October. Ahead of matchday 6, our head coach Martín Demichelis spoke to the media about the upcoming encounter.
A special return to Munich
- “I've mentioned a few times now that going back to Munich and the Allianz Arena is something special for me. I've got a lot of great memories from my time there. Anyone who knows me and my career knows that. But they'll also know that I want to win tomorrow. My focus is entirely on my job and my team. That's what matters most.”
The keys to beating Bayern
- “Of course, tomorrow won't be easy. But the last two games have given us a lot of energy, and we've taken a good step forward. We'll need hunger, courage, passion and belief against Bayern. We want to stay compact and be aggressive out of possession. The aim is to win the ball back quickly through our pressing and then exploit situations where we have a numerical advantage. We can't spend 90 minutes defending. That's not how I want to play, and it's not the kind of football we believe in. Instead, we need to get forward ourselves and create chances. That's what we're aiming to do.”
Potential changes to the starting XI
- “We still need to go over today's training session and then speak to the players. We'll look at their body language and get a feel for how much energy they've got before speaking to them individually. But we might make a few changes to the starting line-up.”
Will Neil or Nici start?
- “They're two different types of holding midfielder, with different personalities. Neil is more of a playmaker, while Nici is a bit stronger defensively. But we need both of them. There's a chance Nici could start tomorrow or in Madrid. I've spoken to him over the last few days and his attitude has been fantastic, even though he hasn't played much recently.Neil has performed well right from the start. He speaks several languages and has settled into the group really well.”
