US Denim Group’s Spring/Summer 2028 collection focuses on commercially relevant innovation.
“Buyers continue to seek newness, comfort and sustainability, but with a much sharper focus on value, margin and price-performance,” said Aleem Ahmad, US Denim Mills’ deputy general manager, product and business development. “With ongoing geopolitical instability, including current conflicts, adding pressure on energy, freight and raw-material costs, we expect the overall market mood to remain cautious, selective and highly cost-conscious.”
The Pakistani-based mill is navigating this complex landscape by developing ways to reduce its reliance on finite resources and to create denim with a lighter environmental footprint. “Our key sustainability message for the season is to move beyond plastic and oil dependency to build a more responsible and resilient future for denim,” he said.
“In a world where the availability and cost of raw materials continue to shift, we believe true resilience comes from building differently. By moving beyond oil-dependent fibers and exploring more responsible material choices, we are creating a collection that is not only better for the future, but also better prepared for it,” he added.
The collection balances smarter ingredients and considered constructions that address specific trends.
For S/S ’28, the mill is exploring linen and Tencel constructions that enhance breathability, drape, softness and comfort, while preserving denim’s authentic feel. This direction is displayed in Edit, a capsule built around blended fabrics that redefine denim’s hand feel, movement and seasonal relevance, Ahmad said.
In Cloud Nine, US Denim offers mono-material constructions designed to deliver softness even at the raw stage. The fabrics feel naturally soft, lightweight and comfortable from the outset.
Ahmad said the market is moving toward more natural, relaxed and refined looks and lightweight fabrics. Silhouettes are becoming more considered, with wide-leg, barrel and relaxed straight fits driving demand. Soft and fluid shapes are also gaining traction.
The mill is leaning into this shift while staying rooted in a modern, authentic character. US Denim’s Texture Tales collection pushes this aesthetic further through constructions made with varied weave structures and yarn combinations that create distinctive textures and surface aesthetics. Ahmad noted that these fabrics are particularly well-suited for relaxed, loose silhouettes, jorts and other easy seasonal styles.
While the current trend is glossy and gritty coatings that transform denim into something else, US Denim sees a return to finishing that highlights denim’s organic texture and character.
“Natural abrasion remains relevant, but in a more subtle, refined way, complemented by slub aesthetics and natural surface texture,” he said.
In washes, naturally aged and vintage-inspired effects are balanced by cleaner finishes. Color is becoming more diverse, moving beyond traditional indigo into earthy browns, light greys, ecru, natural tones and brighter blues. Colored overdyes and dyed wefts introduce fresh seasonal tones and bring more variety to the collection.
“Soft fades, sun-washed effects, subtle worn-in character, and lighter washes give the collection a fresh, relaxed, and easy summer feel while maintaining an authentic denim aesthetic,” he said.
