The non-teaching staff unions of the Yobe State University (YSU), Damaturu, have threatened to embark on strike over alleged failure to implement the new salary agreement for their members.
The unions said teaching staff had already received similar benefits.
The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), YSU Branch, who also chairs the Joint Action Committee (JAC), Comrade Ibrahim Liman, disclosed this on behalf of SSANU and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).
Liman said the two unions had concluded plans to embark on industrial action if the university management failed to implement the agreed salary adjustments for their members.

He expressed displeasure over what he described as unequal treatment of university employees, noting that teaching staff had already been paid their corresponding benefits while non-teaching staff were still waiting.
He said the situation was unfair, considering the important roles non-teaching staff play in the effective administration and day-to-day operations of the university.
Liman said the planned action was a collective decision of the two unions under the Joint Action Committee, adding that they would not hesitate to withdraw their services if their demands remained unmet.
The development comes amid ongoing implementation of the 2026 salary agreements between government and university-based unions.
The JAC chairman called for urgent intervention to ensure equitable treatment of all categories of workers in the university system.
He warned that failure to resolve the matter could disrupt administrative and technical services in the institution, urging relevant authorities to act promptly to avert an industrial crisis.
Efforts to get the reaction of the university management were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
