KOTA BARU: Perikatan Nasional hopes negotiations will yield two additional seats for the upcoming Melaka election.
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said although seven seats were offered to Pas as announced by Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the final decision rests with the seat negotiation committee.
"For the Melaka election, we are at the main committee stage and will finalise it within these next couple of days.
"Although the seven seats mentioned by Zahid were those not won by BN, we are still negotiating for one or two more seats today or tomorrow, God willing," he told a press conference here today.
He added that the seven seats offered to PN were previously won by DAP and Pakatan Harapan in constituencies with a mix of Malay and Chinese voters.
It was previously reported that Zahid confirmed political understanding negotiations with Pas had been finalised ahead of next month's Melaka election.
Zahid said following months of talks, BN agreed to contest 21 seats while the remaining seven would be contested by Pas and its political partners.
Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim expressed relief that the PN logo could still be used for the election after the High Court yesterday granted a stay on the Registrar of Societies' (RoS) decision to suspend and deregister the coalition.
"Alhamdulillah, the High Court yesterday granted a stay, which means we can use the PN logo. However, we received information that the RoS will file an appeal," he said.
